When I first came to Salzburg in 1992, 15 years old, I lived in a small room on Moos Strasse that had a beautiful view on the Untersberg. From that first day on, I wanted to climb this mountain which casts its shadow over the town on sunny days (and believe me there aren’t many in Salzburg). The Untersberg is about 1800 meters high and you can see it from almost every place in the small town. Naturally, it was on my mind all those 14 years that I have been in and out of Salzburg, and with every day I did not climb the rocky monument my guilty conscience grew. Now, two months before my girlfriend, who is my last connection to Salzburg will move away from here, I finally made it to the Untersberg’s top. The view that I enjoyed from there was magnificent! Dachstein, Tennengau, Watzmann, Hochstauffen, the panorama is breathtaking. And on top of that there is this all encompassing silence that makes you forget the busy festival atmosphere of the city. Today’s tour felt like a good ending of my Salzburg episode and I think on the Untersberg I may have come to terms with this town. Finally……
